It’s been five weeks now that we’ve had 80-plus degrees and brilliant blue skies in Los Angeles. I don’t know what I was thinking years ago when I moved here from New York, kicking and screaming, with all the Woody Allen lines. “L.A. is the last place on Earth I’d live, that culture void where all people talk about is plastic surgery……”
Well, I gave up long ago comparing this place to NYC. No place on the planet compares to my old home town, the Big Apple. But if you love the outdoors, this is no doubt the most spectacular winter imaginable.
We’re swimming OUTDOORS in mid-January!!! Please let me retract all the bad mouthing I ever did about this place.

La does offer some outdoor swimming advantages over NY. It’s really cold here right now.
Diana- I read your post yesterday about California and realized that picture of you was at the RBAC. I didn’t know you lived in CA part of the year and I was shaking with excitement with the prospect of possibly running into you there. I just wanted to share that tomorrow is Diana Nyad day at my daughters preschool. It’s “real life super heroes” month and as parents we are all taking turns presenting to the children about true heroes. Did you know your super power is the power of determination? I bet you did. Anyway, I had to write to tell you that, and also to let you know that one of my dreams is to introduce my two daughters to you. They need to meet women like you to know that anything’s possible. Thank you SO much for the inspiration. Keeping you in my thoughts got me through 3 marathons last year. I really hope to see you at the RBAC. I run over there about 4 days a week. MY eyes are peeled! Have a great day. Natalie
