Xtreme Dream 2012: Jellyfish Armor

Posted by Xtreme Dream Team on Feb 7, 2012 in Blog | 13 comments

The Xtreme Dream is very much alive! Come summer 2012 I will finally walk up on that Florida shore after swimming all those long miles from Cuba. I’m all ready, my body, shoulders, muscles and my mind are all prepared for the 60 to 70 hours to make it across. My world-class team of experts are ready for the challenge. The only missing piece to this Xtreme Dream is finding protection from the deadly jellyfish out there. There are swimsuit makers working hard on solving this problem. Here’s a few suits that might do the job. The jellyfish are a conundrum we have not yet solved, but we will get there.

  1. This news made me so happy. I can’t wait to see you reach your goal. I know you can do it. Good luck and i’ll be with you every step of the way..

  2. This is the greatest news. And I will follow this dream in 2012 just as I did every moment in 2011. Anyone with this amount of drive, WILL succeed.

  3. So happy to hear you’re ready for another swim! Third time’s the charm. Maybe the mesh suit would cling better with spray adhesive?

You inspire me. I would swim ahead of you, brandishing peanut butter, but I don’t think I could keep up your pace. ;)

  4. This is excellent news. I’m an adult swimmer and you’re an absolute inspiration for me. Please keep up the hard work.

  5. Diana: Maybe talk to companies that make filters for kidney dialysis and other filtration. they know a lot abiut permeable/semi-permeable membranes. just sayin’!
    good luck

Glad to hear you made that big U turn!

  7. I feel your pain!! A few years ago a Portuguese Man of War got a hold of my upper arm while I was swimming in Hawaii. I have never felt such pain…it was like a hot knife was slicing through my skin! Pretty sure I looked like a torpedo shooting out of the water. The reaction from that poison just about killed me…I still have the scars. Please find a safe suit before your next effort, I can’t imagine the pain you went through and kept swimming. My best wishes and hopes for your success!!

  8. Diana, if the jellyfish are worst at night, why can’t we light up the ocean? A diver behind one of those underwater scooters with a headlight? It would be such an honor to lead the way for you. But definitely wear the best suit anyone can come up with.

  9. Unbelievable. You are so inspiring, Diana… I am sure you’ll make it this time.

  10. It was wonderful hearing you speak in Palo Alto tonight. Keep up the swimming, singing and even some silliness! I believe in you and you help us better believe in ourselves! Thank you!

  11. Last night’s talk in Palo Alto was inspiring, funny you are so dynamic. It was an honor. You also have a wonderful singing voice.

    All the best to you,

    Carolyn

  12. Your message…Maybe there is some kind of gel avail to help solve the jellyfish problem. Go girl.

  13. Good luck Diana!
